Three Blow Molding Processes
In the manufacturing process of plastic cosmetic bottle containers, you may often hear professional terms such as extrusion blow molding (EBM), injection stretch blow molding (ISBM), and injection blow molding (IBM). This article briefly explains the differences between these three processes and the related products for product managers:
Extrusion blow molding of plastic cosmetic bottle is a method for manufacturing hollow thermoplastic parts. Well-known blow molding objects include bottles, buckets, cans, boxes, and all containers for packaging food, beverages, cosmetics, medicines, and daily necessities. Large blow molding containers are usually used for packaging chemical products, lubricants, and bulk materials. The processing cost in the process is medium, and the unit cost is low. Typical products are mainly used for chemical product container packaging, consumer product container packaging, and medicine container packaging. They are only suitable for large-scale production, with high quality, uniform wall thickness, and surface treatment suitable for smooth, frosted, and textured finishes.

The injection blow molding process of plastic cosmetic bottle first injects molten plastic into an injection mold to form a bottle blank. Bottle blank is then formed on a hollow convex mold with micro-holes on the periphery. Next, it is moved to a blow molding mold while still hot. Then, the mold is closed and compressed air is introduced through a core rod pipe to blow the bottle blank and make it adhere to the cavity wall of the mold. Finally, after pressure holding and cooling, the compressed air is released and the mold is opened to remove the plastic part. It is only suitable for large-scale production, with high quality, uniform wall thickness, and surface treatment suitable for smooth, frosted, and textured finishes.
Injection stretch blow molding of plastic cosmetic bottle, also known as ISBM, first uses an injection molding machine to inject a bottle blank, which is then stretched longitudinally and then inflated with compressed air to stretch it laterally, resulting in a product with the same shape as the mold cavity. According to the product molding process, it can be divided into one-step ISBM and two-step ISBM.
