Silicone Of Cosmetic Plastic Packaging

2025-12-12

Silicone rubber, as a material, is widely used in travel bottles, portioning bottles, gifts, and massage devices. As an environmentally friendly material, it is currently commonly used in products for women and children, cosmetics, makeup, medical products, outdoor and leisure items, and furniture. With the continuous adoption of plant-based formulas in the cosmetics industry, it is expected that the use of silicone rubber in this industry will show a significant growth trend in the future.

Silicone, is a highly active adsorption material and a non-crystalline substance with the chemical formula mSiO2·nH2O. It is insoluble in water and any solvent, odorless, tasteless, and chemically stable. It does not react with any substance except strong alkali and hydrofluoric acid. Different types of silicone have different micro-pore structures due to different manufacturing methods. The chemical composition and physical structure of silicone determine many characteristics that are difficult to be replaced by other similar materials: high adsorption performance, good thermal stability, stable chemical properties, and high mechanical strength.

Molded silicone products are usually formed by placing solid silicone rubber raw materials with added vulcanizing agents into high-temperature molds and applying pressure through a vulcanizing machine at high temperatures. The hardness of molded silicone is typically between 30°C and 70°C. The raw materials are mixed with color pastes to match the colors according to the Pantone color chart. The shape of the mold determines the shape of the molded silicone product. Molded silicone products are currently the most widely used type in the silicone industry.

Extruded silicone products are usually formed by extruding silicone through an extrusion machine. Generally, extruded silicone is in the shape of long strips or tubes that can be cut to any length. However, the shape of extruded silicone is limited. It is widely used in medical devices and food machinery.

Liquid silicone products are formed by injection molding or spray molding. The products are soft, with a hardness ranging from 10°C to 40°C. Due to their softness, they are widely used in simulating human organs, medical silicone breast pads, and other applications.
