Color mater batch

2025-12-19

Master batch is a new type of colorant specifically designed for polymer materials, also known as pigment preparation. It is composed of three basic elements: pigments or dyes, carriers and additives. It is an aggregate obtained by uniformly loading an excessive amount of pigments or dyes onto resins and can be called a pigment concentrate. Therefore, its tinting strength is higher than that of the pigments themselves. In simple terms: A color master batch is an aggregate obtained by uniformly loading an excessive amount of pigment or dye onto a resin.

01 Composition

Pigments or dyes

Pigments are further classified into organic pigments and inorganic

Pigments or dyes

Commonly used organic pigments include: phthalocyanine red, phthalocyanine blue, phthalocyanine green, lightfast bright red, macromolecular red, macromolecular yellow, permanent yellow, permanent purple, azo red, etc.

Commonly used inorganic pigments include: cadmium red, cadmium yellow, titanium dioxide, carbon black, iron oxide red, iron oxide yellow, etc

Carrier

The carrier is the base of the color masterbatch. Specialized color masterbatches usually choose the same resin as the product resin as the carrier, and the compatibility between the two is the best. However, the fluidity of the carrier should also be considered at the same time.

Dispersant

Dispersant

To promote the uniform dispersion of pigments and prevent them from coagulating, the melting point of the dispersant should be lower than that of the resin, and it should have good compatibility with the resin and a good affinity with the pigments. The most commonly used dispersants are: low-molecular-weight polyethylene wax and stearate.

Additive

Additive

Such as flame-retardant, brightening, antibacterial, antistatic, antioxidant and other varieties, unless requested by the customer, generally do not contain the above additives in the color masterbatch.

02 Advantages

a.To make the pigment have better dispersibility in the product During the production process of color masterbatches, pigments must be refined to enhance their dispersibility and tinting strength. The carrier of the special color masterbatch is the same as the plastic type of the product, which has good compatibility. After heating and melting, the pigment particles can be well dispersed in the plastic of the product.

b.It is conducive to maintaining the chemical stability of the pigment If pigments are used directly, they will absorb water and oxidize due to direct contact with air during storage and use. However, after being made into color masterbatches, the resin carrier isolates the pigments from air and moisture, which can keep the quality of the pigments unchanged for a long time.

c.Ensure the stability of the product's color Masterbatch particles are similar to resin particles, making them more convenient and accurate in measurement. They do not adhere to the container during mixing and are more evenly mixed with the resin. Therefore, the stability of the addition amount can be ensured, thereby guaranteeing the stability of the product color.

D.Protect the health of the operators Pigments are generally in powder form and tend to fly when added and mixed. Once inhaled by the human body, they will affect the health of the operators.

e.Keep the environment clean

f.Easy to use

Our factory uses color master batches of various colors when manufacturing plastic hoses, which enables diverse designs and makes the hoses more aesthetically pleasing.
